Navajo Lands

The images in this gallery were taken in the Four Corners area of the Southwest. The subject areas are within the boundaries of the Navajo Nation; the largest area of land within the Continental United States assigned to Native American jurisdiction. Monument Valley, a region of the Colorado Plateau, has dramatic geology. The Navajo call Monument Valley Tsé Biiʼ Ndzisgaii, meaning valley of the rocks. Navajo Tribal Park includes areas in both Arizona and Utah; it is the gateway to Monument Valley.  Shiprock and El Capitan are “volcanic necks”; remnants of ancient volcanoes. If you have the opportunity to visit this area of the country be sure to be present for sunrise at Monument Tribal Park to experience the colors of dawn on Sentinel Mesa and the Mitten Buttes.
