Red-eyed Tree Frog

red-eyed tree frog, Agalychnis callidryas, When resting this frog covers the bright thigh markings and closes it’s eyes to use the green cryptic camouflage coloration to hide. Bright markings along the sides and limbs are quickly exposed to use flash, dazzle coloration to surprise and confuse the predator. This is achieved by leaving a ghost image in the visual field of where the frog was originally which confuses the predator and gives the frog time to hide. The bright colors may also double as aposematic or warning coloration, These flash colors may also deceive predators by making the non toxic frog appear poisonous since these bright contrasting colors often indicate a species is venomous or has toxic skin secretions or in some way is not a choice edible.
